The first taste of music from the massive (in spirit) EP from Massive Attack, titled Splitting the Atom. It's a long, dark song, the first on the EP, and it features an appearance from Tunde Adebimpe (TV on the Radio).
The good news is the the patented Massive Attack sound and depth of quality is in full force here. The better news is that there's also new directions for both the sound and style of the delivery. There are moments where the song wanders off track into a tangent, before finding its way back to its conventional structure. A certain dark minimalism is also coupled with momentary bright and hopeful interlude two thirds of the way through. If this is any sign of what's to come on the EP and the later to be released album, then I can't wait.
